When the meltdowns keep coming…
You’re walking on eggshells. Your patience ran out months ago.
One wrong word. One wrong look. And the whole house goes up.
It doesn’t even look like a meltdown. It looks like defiance. Rudeness. Like they’re doing it on purpose.
You hear yourself shouting before you can stop it. You send them out of the room, then immediately wonder if you handled it all wrong.
You’ve tried holding firmer boundaries. You’ve tried letting things go. You’ve tried the charts, the consequences and all the other ‘helpful’ parenting advice.
And the hardest part? You’re the one people come to for answers. You’re capable. You sort things. But at home, with the person who matters most, nothing you try seems to work.
Underneath it all is the fear you don’t say out loud: that the tension is getting worse, and you don’t know how much more your family can take.
It isn’t that you don’t love them enough. It isn’t even that you haven’t tried hard enough. It’s that everything you’ve tried has treated this as behaviour.
You can’t control how your child feels. You CAN change how you respond.
Almost everything you’ve been told treats this as behaviour. But behaviour isn’t what’s driving what’s happening in your home.
Our children can’t regulate their emotions on their own. That’s part of their disability. Expecting them to is like expecting a child with a broken leg to run down the road.
While we keep treating it as behaviour, we stay stuck. And the tension keeps building.
PAUSE™ is about stepping out of that cycle and seeing all of this differently. When you understand what’s happening underneath, you can respond with intention instead of reacting. And when you change how you respond, their behaviour starts to change too.
This isn’t about blame. You’re not failing. You’re the one with the power to change how these moments unfold.
That’s what The PAUSE Method™ equips you to do.
Why learning more hasn’t worked.
You’ve probably read more about neurodivergence than most professionals. The books. The podcasts. The strategies. And every time something doesn’t work, you go looking for more.
Because that’s how you solve things. In so much of your life, it works.
But think about how you handle pressure at work. When it’s all going wrong, you don’t reach for a book. You fall back on a process: steps you trust, that you can follow even when you’re stressed.
At home, no one has ever given you one. So the moment it all kicks off, everything you’ve learned disappears, and you’re left with the one thing that’s automatic: reacting.
Knowledge doesn’t interrupt escalation. Structure does.
That’s what PAUSE™ is. Not more to learn. A process to fall back on.
You’re constantly trying to work out…
You hold firmer boundaries because you’re scared of raising a child who thinks they can do whatever they want. Then the reaction is enormous. You end up shouting, they end up dysregulated, and everyone is exhausted.
PAUSE™ takes the guessing away. You’ll understand what’s actually driving your child’s reaction, and what you’re bringing into the moment too, so you can decide what matters and hold it with confidence.
Parenting without constantly second-guessing yourself
“If I let this go, am I giving in?”
“I know what my child needs right now. I don’t need to second-guess myself.”
“If I say no, she’s going to explode.”
“I know why she’s reacting, and I know how I’m going to handle it.”
“Why can’t I just get this right?”
“I know my child. I know what matters. I know what I’m doing.”
And instead of going to bed feeling guilty, you can feel proud of how you parented. Even when the day was hard.
“Meltdowns don’t seem to escalate in the way they used to.”
A PAUSE™ mumOne word to remember. A plan for the moment, and for next time.
In the moment
- PSee distress, not defiance, and reach for your PEA script: Provide, Empathise, Assure.
- ACatch your own reaction before it takes over.
- UQuiet the “what if” spiral.
Before it happens again
- SSee what’s pushing your child over the edge, and take some of the pressure off.
- EReconnect, talk it through at the right time, and set clear expectations together.
What changes in you, step by step
Most approaches start with your child’s behaviour. Every step of PAUSE™ starts with what’s driving it.
Physiology
See the meltdown for what it really is.
What changes in you: you see what’s happening through a whole new lens, and shift from rage to empathy.
Not defiance. Not naughtiness. A body in distress. You’ll know what your child needs from you in that moment, and have your own in-the-moment plan to give it calmly.
Awareness
Catch your own reaction before it takes over.
What changes in you: you notice what’s happening in you, so you can interrupt it instead of running on autopilot.
You’re not a bad mum for yelling. It’s what happens when your nervous system is pushed past its limit. This isn’t about magically staying calm. It’s about spotting your own stress response as it starts, and knowing how to interrupt it.
Unhelpful Thoughts
Quiet the “what if” spiral.
What changes in you: you respond from calm, not from fear and guilt.
“How will they ever hold down a job if they treat their own mum like this?” Learn to catch, challenge and change the fear and guilt that fuel your reaction.
Stress & Demands
Stop the pressure building before it boils over.
What changes in you: you change what’s in your control, instead of waiting for your child to cope with more.
See how much your child is really tolerating every day, and build a simple plan to take some of that weight off.
Establish Boundaries
Hold the line, without starting a war.
What changes in you: you hold boundaries with confidence, without fearing the reaction.
Boundaries that keep everyone safe, without compromising your values. Learn how to engage, explain and set clear expectations, so the tricky conversations happen firmly and calmly.

This will feel right for you if…
- You’re ready to change the one thing you can control: how you respond
- You’ve tried the charts, consequences and other ‘helpful’ parenting advice, and it hasn’t helped your real life
- You want guidance that still works when you’re tired, emotional or doubting yourself
- You want to feel calmer and more confident around your child, not on edge all the time
It may not be the right fit if…
- You’re waiting for your child to change first
- You want a quick behaviour fix without understanding what’s underneath
- You’re not ready to look at how you respond yet
- You or your child are in crisis right now and need urgent or clinical support (please speak to your GP or local services first)
And that’s okay.
This is for the mum who’s ready to take the lead. Not because she’s failing, but because she knows she’s the one who can change the pattern.
In their words
The course has helped me see things far more clearly from [my son’s] perspective and understand the importance of recognising that his responses to difficult situations are physiologically mediated and not something he is choosing. I’ve learned that by supporting him rather than reacting, I can help prevent situations (and my own response!) from escalating which has been incredibly powerful. I now feel equipped with practical, compassionate responses that I can use in the moment.
Sarah, nurse and lecturer, mum to a 10-year-old sonI’m an Occupational Therapist and although I’m aware of sensory processing and the challenges this presents, having someone give knowledge while also sharing their experience with empathy and compassion has been a real encouragement to me.
Anna, Occupational TherapistLaura breaks everything down into easy steps and explains things in a way that no one ever has before. Things feel so different now.
CatharineIt’s helped me make lasting change for my family. I don’t dread mornings any more!
RebeccaHi, I’m Laura.
I’m an educator, parent coach and mum to neurodivergent twins, and I know how heavy this can feel.
I’ve lived the screaming mornings, the shutdowns, the guilt for ‘losing it’. I tried so hard to learn everything, and I spent so long trying to change my son’s behaviour. None of it helped.
Everything changed when I turned the spotlight round. Away from fixing his behaviour, and onto how I was responding.
Nothing was wrong with me. And nothing was wrong with my children. What was missing was the right understanding, and a plan I could actually use in the moment.
After 19+ years in education, most recently specialising in SEN and training SEND teachers and SENCOs at Master’s level, I turned what I learned into The PAUSE Method™, so you don’t have to work it all out the hard way.
PAUSE™ is the heart of everything I do

Still wondering if it’s right for you?
Will I be signed up to a subscription?
No. The PAUSE Method™ is a one-off payment of £47, with lifetime access. Your Café voucher is just a gift. Nothing starts unless you choose to use it.
How does The PAUSE Method™ work?
It’s a set of short, self-guided video lessons built around a clear 5-step framework: Physiology, Awareness, Unhelpful Thoughts, Stress & Demands and Establish Boundaries. It helps you understand what’s really going on behind your child’s BIG emotions, and how to respond calmly instead of reacting.
Is this saying the meltdowns are my fault?
Not at all. You’re not failing, and your child isn’t ‘bad’. But you are the person in the room who can change how these moments unfold. PAUSE™ is about giving you that back: the understanding, the steadiness and the plan, without the guilt.
I’m a busy working mum. Will this work for me?
I created it with you in mind. I couldn’t make an 11am Tuesday group or a 7pm Wednesday call either. The lessons are short and bite-sized, you can watch them or listen podcast style, and you can come back to them whenever you need.
How quickly can I start using PAUSE™?
Straight away. Step 1 is a 10-minute session, and it gives you something to use the same day. The whole method takes about an hour and a half, but I recommend going step by step rather than doing it all at once. You don’t need to finish everything before you start making changes.
I’ve already tried therapy and a diagnosis. Why would this be different?
A diagnosis can tell you what’s going on, and therapy often focuses on your child. PAUSE™ focuses on the part you can change today: what you see, and how you respond, in the moment itself. It isn’t instead of other support. It works alongside it.
My partner isn’t on the same page as me. Will this still help?
Yes. This is really common, and you don’t need everyone on board to start. When one person in the house changes how they respond, the whole dynamic starts to shift. And the lessons are short, so they’re easy to watch or listen to together when the time feels right.
I’m not in the UK. Can I still join?
Yes. The PAUSE Method™ is completely online, with lifetime access, so you can work through it wherever you are and whenever suits you. Prices are in pounds (GBP), and your card provider converts it to your own currency when you pay.
I just don’t have the brain space to learn everything right now
That’s exactly why I made it. It isn’t trying to teach you everything about your child. Theory doesn’t help when you’re just trying to get through the day. PAUSE™ gives you simple, practical steps first.
What if I need more help?
Your Café voucher is a lovely place to start, with live calls where you can bring what’s actually happening at home. Lots of people also book 1:1 support with me once they’ve worked through PAUSE™, to tailor it to their own family.
What if it isn’t right for me?
You’re covered by my 48-hour guarantee. If you genuinely don’t find it helpful, just email me and I’ll refund you.
You can’t change how your child feels.
But you can change what happens next.
